Rodrick Desmoria, also known as King Rodrick, is a non-playable character in Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together. He is mostly a historical figure, but makes an appearance in the Palace of the Dead in the SNES/PSX version, and in CODA of the PSP version.
Rodrick was the King of Brigantys, one of the five kingdoms that divided the Valerian Isles many years ago. He was a just ruler in times of peace, but his drastic actions in Dorgalua's Great War would tar his reputation and bring about his downfall.
Dorgalua's Great War[]
At first, Rodrick fought along side King Dorgalua in the great war, but later turned against him because of a truce that favored Dorgalua's side greatly.
As the battle raged on, a desperate Rodrick turned to the forbidden magic of the Apocrypha. The new power saw him prevail in every battle and control the tide of war, but the sheer might of the magic wreaked widespread destruction on the land and armies of both sides. Brigantys' people soon turned on Rodrick, siding with King Dorgalua. Rodrick was defeated not long after.
Chaos Gate[]
After being imprisoned by King Dorgalua, Rodrick passed away consumed with bitterness. His soul was drawn to the Palace of the Dead, eventually become sealed in the Chaos Gate that was located in its depths. He then turned into a Revenant from the darkness that overtook him.
However, a fragment of Rodrick's spirit was still pure enough to separate from the evil form. It took the form of Rodrick as a young boy, and wandered the palace floors, imploring visitors to "save the king".
The Revenant Rodrick soul was released from the abyss when Denam undid the seal using the Holy sword Brynhildr during his search for Warren. He unleashed his wrath on the party, but was vanquished in the ensuing battle. Rodrick's soul was able to become whole once more before he was laid to rest.
