Legend of Ogre Battle Gaiden: Prince of Zenobia has a branching plot with 5 possible endings.
- Chaotic Ending
- Neutral-Chaotic Ending
- Neutral Ending
- Neutral-Lawful Ending
- Lawful Ending
In all endings, Balder is repelled back to the Netherworld, and Tristan disperses the Volunteer Army. The variation comes in the epilogue, which show Tristan's next plans. In most endings, his attention turns towards the Sacred Xytegenian Empire, paving the way for his appearance in Ogre Battle: The March of the Black Queen.
Requirements[]
The ending of Prince of Zenobia hinges on two factors alone.
- Whether the player is on the Lawful or Chaotic Route.
- What answers are given to questions immediately before the final battle with Balder.
Unlike previous games, Reputation and Tristan's Alignment have no effect.
Chaotic Route Endings[]
The Chaotic Route is triggered if the player chooses the Norodom Region stage after the Netha Region.
During the confrontation at Laika Lakeshore, Balder first berates Tristan over the lives taken by his former kingdom, as well as the lives he's taken personally. Balder asks him how many more he must kill before he's satisfied.
- By pressing A, Tristan shoots back with "You have no right whatsoever!", and the battle begins. This leads to the Neutral Ending.
By pressing B, Tristan says he can't create anymore bloodshed, and starts losing himself to regret. Cain steps in and tries to rekindle Tristan's fighting spirit, reminding him of the peace they're trying to build.
- By pressing A, Tristan accepts his encouragement and refocuses. This leads to the Neutral-Chaotic Ending.
- By pressing B, Tristan says it's hopeless, but is nonetheless forced to fight when Balder attacks. This leads to the Chaotic Ending.
Lawful Route Endings[]
The Lawful Route is triggered by going to Megaholten after the Netha Region.
At Laika Lakeshore, Balder asks Tristan if he truly believes this war-torn world is worth protecting.
- By Pressing A, Tristan responds with "Protect it I will", and the battle begins. This leads to the Lawful Ending.
By pressing B, Tristan asks Balder what he's really trying to say. Balder elaborates that his home world has peace through complete darkness. No past, no future, no joy, no pain. Balder then asks Tristan what it is he wishes for, and offers to use his own powers to fulfill it.
- By pressing A, Tristan rejects Balder's power. This leads to the Neutral-Lawful Ending.
- By pressing B, Tristan accepts darkness, but Balder still attacks. This leads to the Neutral Ending (the same one as in the Chaotic Route).
Variations[]
Tristan and his allies are able to overpower Balder in the final battle. Addressing the defeated Balder, Tristan declares he won't give up on the world. He claims that if the world has indeed been thrown into chaos by humans, then humans can also put it back in order.
Balder concedes defeat and agrees to withdraw to his realm. However, he leaves Tristan with one last taunt that human hearts are the true source of darkness.
With the threat of Balder neutralized, Tristan disperses the Volunteer Army in preparation for his next move.
Chaotic Ending[]
Tristan takes his fight to the Xytegenian Empire, but in order to protect his friends, he leaves in secret. When Cain, Aquarius, and Nana piece together what's happened, they decide to chase after him.
Neutral-Chaotic Ending[]
Tristan is deeply troubled by the bloodshed that paved the road to their victory. He and Cain return to Estor, in order to rethink how they can build the peace they desire.
As an epilogue, Tristan recalls Banya's letter, and her dream to see him become Xenobia's prince again.
Neutral Ending[]
Tristan and Cain leave together on a journey. The details are ambiguous, but it's implied they play a hand in the eventual downfall of the Xytegenian Empire.
Neutral Lawful Ending[]
Tristan confides in Cain that he wants to devote his life to fighting the Xytegenian Empire, and bring peace back to their land. Though he's unsure of what he can truly accomplish, Cain encourages him, and agrees to follow him all the way.
Tristan thinks back to the words of Estrada, on what it means to build peace.
Lawful Ending[]
Tristan voices clear his desire to become strong enough to topple the Xytegenian Empire. Though Cain is stunned at the notion, he agrees to aide his friend.
A whisper of Balder's voice carries the offer of his power to Tristan.
