Leadership is a stat in Ogre Battle: The March of the Black Queen and Ogre Battle 64: Person of Lordly Caliber. All units require a leader to be sent out onto the field of battle. Typically, leaders are human classes or sentient beings, while followers are usually beasts, dragons, and other Large size creatures. When a leader is killed in battle, the unit will stop responding to commands and immediately begin retreating back to Headquarters with the Slow movement type.
The leader lends varying bonuses and negatives depending on the compatibly of the classes within the unit, and the comparative stats between the leader and the followers. Generally, the higher the stats of the leader, the higher the stat bonuses given to the followers. Special leaders, such as the Beast Master or Dragon Master for example give stat bonuses to beasts and dragons, respectively. The Princess class is another example, granting an extra attack to each character in the unit she leads.
