Pheryx Tristan Xenobia, also known as the Saint King Tristan, is the prince of Xenobia in Ogre Battle: The March of the Black Queen and a minor character in Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together.

He is the protagonist of the side story Legend of Ogre Battle Gaiden: Prince of Zenobia, which chronicles his exploits leading up to his emergence in The March of the Black Queen.

Story[]

Early Life[]

Tristan is the son of King Gran and Queen Floran and older brother of Jan. When his father was assassinated by Gares of Hyland, he was whisked away by his wet-nurse Banya. He was placed under the protection of Estrada, a Xenobian knight loyal to the late king, and hidden in the remote village of Estor.

As a youth, Tristan was trained and mentored by Estrada. He had a humble upbringing and did not learn of his royal lineage until his teens.

Tristan was a member, and eventual leader, of a Volunteer Army in rural Xenobia. The group initially targeted bandit gangs that had increased as a result of the war, but eventually found themselves facing forces from the Netherworld. The experience was a turning point in the young prince's life. He decided to accept the responsibility of his royal bloodline, and dedicate his life to restoring peace to his homeland.

Wedding in Malano[]

Hearing the news of a rebellion being formed he waited in Amad for Destin, the leader of the rebels. But when he was told that Duke Apros, a noble who betrayed his father during the great war was to be married, Tristan could not pass up the chance at revenge. The prince planned to use the crowds gathering around Malano to his advantage in an assassination attempt. Luckily for him, the rebels found him at Malano before he could risk his life unnecessarily. There they gave him the Key of Destiny and joined forces with him. Tristan sated his vengeance on Apros and moved his sights toward the highlands.

Fort Shulamana[]

The rebels reached Fort Shulamana believing rumors that Queen Floran had been imprisoned there for twenty five years. They defeated the Deva Previa and found while the rumor of her being at the fort was true, Tristan's mother was dead. After his mourning, he gave one of the Three Mystic Treasures, the Mystic Armband, to Destin, and focused his rage at finishing off the Empire once and for all.

His Father Avenged[]

Prince Gares, the black knight who assassinated his father was the next victim of the future king, who was finally destroyed at the Temple Shalina. He also confronted Rashidi, his father's former friend, and exchanged words with the sage who had betrayed his father and Xenobia. The rebels succeeded in destroying Rashidi and the dark god Diablo that had been resurrected.

Crowned[]

After the war was over, Tristan was crowned king of Xenobia and married Rauny Vinzalf, uniting the lands of Hyland and Xenobia under one kingdom, the Kingdom of New Xenobia. With the Three Mystic Treasures, the Grail, the Mystic Armband and Brynhildr, his rule was a peaceful one and he was loved by all of his subjects.

The Holy Sword Stolen[]

Early in his reign, one of the Three Mystic Treasures, the holy sword Brynhildr, was stolen by operatives of the Holy Lodissian Empire. As the sword had to potential to unlock Chaos Gates, it could be disastrous in the wrong hands. Tristan devised a plan whereby a small company of his most trusted men (Lanselot Hamilton, Warren Omon, Canopus Wolph, Gildas W. Byrne, and Mirdyn Walhorn) would be sent Westward to retrieve it, under the guise of being exiled. Ultimately, the company were successful, and returned to their King with the sword in tow.

  • Revisit Kal Robst (SNES) / Kal Robs (PSX) on the Slums of Zenobia stage. Answer "No" to Banya's question to receive the Key of Destiny (KEY).
  • Liberate the town of Bel Chelry (SNES) / Bel Chel (PSX) with the Opinion Leader. The player must have 2/3 of the Reputation Meter full and possess the Key of Destiny (KEY). Answer "Yes" to recruit him.
