Merrik Ehlrig (known as Erig in the SNES/PS version) is a playable character in Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together.

A partisan of the Valerian Liberation Front disguised as a common pirate, he escaped the Dark Knights' attack on the Liberation Front due to being at sea at the time. Upon knowing of his leader's survival, he returns to assist her.

Warren Report[]

If Recruited[]

Captain Ehlrig

Merrik Ehlrig. Age 33.

A Bakram formerly with the Liberation Front. He was at sea when the Dark Knights attacked Boed Fortress to wipe out the Liberation Front, and so escaped with his life.

After meeting up with Cerya at Rhime, they set out for Qadriga Fortress to rebuild their forces. They continued the work of the Liberation Front under the guise of pirates, calling themselves the "Free Seas."

If Killed[]

Former captain of a band of pirates based in Qadriga Fortress who terrorized the surrounding waters. The pirates call themselves the "Free Seas", and set themselves above other sea raiders. Their wrath often falls upon naval ports, warships, and the vessel of nobles, and some say there is more to their actions than mere plundering.

He offered to join forces with the Resistance, but was rebuffed. He was killed in the battle that ensued.

Recruitment[]

Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together (PSP)[]

Exclusive to the Neutral route

During Chapter 3N. Cerya will join the battle against Oz as a Guest, surrounded by enemies and inflicted with Leadened status; the player must keep her alive during this battle. At the end she will leave without joining.

In Chapter 4N, after rescuing Archiereus Mreuva, head to Krysaro and a new talk topic in the Warren Report will pop up titled "Pirates of Qadriga Fortress". Upon reading this, Qadriga will change into a hostile location (red icon). Head there to unlock a special event - you do not need to do the battle if you plan to recruit him. Go there, enter the battle, answer "Will you aid us?" to Captain Ehlrig's question and the battle will end immediately. You will be whisked away to meet Cerya and will be able recruit both of them and the end of the scene.

Overview[]

Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together (PSP)[]

Ehlrig is perhaps one of the most useless recruitable characters in the game. He comes in pretty late into the game, with RT comparable to that of generic units, and with a class that not only has become nearly-obsolete at that point but also abundant in the Neutral Route.

Unusually, he comes with high ranks in Hammers, but the only hammer available for Clerics is the female-only Caldia.

If the player insist on using this character, he may be made more useful as a Knight, since it allows him to take advantage of his trained Hammers and Divine Magic skills; alternatively, he may be made into a Rogue if no other characters fulfill that role, since it's a good class to have in any party, has no unique characters, and has a low RT that mitigates Ehlrig's own.

Dialogue[]

Battle Banter[]

Opening speech:

  • Ehlrig: "What's the self-styled leader of the Resistance doing in these parts?"/"Come to beg our help, have you?"/"Or perhaps you've come to convert the Free Seas to your cause?"
  • Denam:
  • Choice 1 ("What "Free Seas", pirate?):
    • Denam: "You're no alliance. You're a band of pirates!"/"Surrender now. I'll not offer again."
    • Ehlrig: "You've more spine than rumor'd have it. Sounds like the girl was telling the truth."/"Good. My boys've been itching for a fight."
  • Choice 2 ("Will you aid us?):
    • Denam: "Would you join us?"/"What use the badgering of our own people?"/"You've got steel, and men. Use them to serve Valeria!"
    • Ehlrig: "We answer only to the wisdom of The Father and the cruelty of the sea!"/"Why help your sort? Power-hungry men, fighting to soak their lands with blood."
    • Denam: "Then we will vanquish you like the pirates you are!"
    • Ehlrig: "You've more spine than rumor'd have it. Sounds like the girl was telling the truth."/"A truce, then! Our swords could use the rest."/"And there's someone I'd have you meet. Girl by the name of Cerya."
    • Denam: "Cerya? What's Cerya doing with pirates?"
    • Ehlrig: "There're no pirates here, lad. You're looking at what's left of the Liberation Front."/"You only need trust us a moment. We'll talk after you've met the girl."
    • Denam: "All right. If this is a trap, know that retribution will be swift."

Death Quote[]
