The Apocrypha, also known as the Forbidden Magic, are legendary magic spells featured in Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together. These can only be used by special classes (plus the Ninja, Wizard, and Siren in the SNES/PSX version).
They originate from the Valerian Isles, created as weapons of war, but such was their destructive power that they were sealed out of fear inside the Six Ancient Temples of Philaha (four in the SNES/PSX version).
History[]
Origin and Sealing[]
It's not known what the original source of the Apocrypha was. They first appeared in records from Dorgalua's Great War, when King Rodrick of Brigantys used them in a desperate attempt to defeat Dorgalua's forces. The magic was so powerful that not only did Rodrick destroy Dorgalua's armies, but he destroyed his own along with his territory.
After Dorgalua's victory, he forbade further use of the Apocrypha, and ordered them sealed in the Ancient Temples of Philaha.
Rediscovery[]
During the events of the Heim Conflict, Denam Morne was told about the Apocrypha by Mreuva Phoraena, the man who sealed them in the temples. With the help of Phoraena's daughters, Denam unsealed the temples and defeated the temple guardians, acquiring the forbidden magicks in the process.
Requirements[]
The quest to obtain the Apocrypha magic can begin after returning to Phidoch Castle following the battle at Barnicia in Chapter 4. The specifics vary between versions of the game.
Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together (SNES/PSX)[]
Note that the quest requires that all four of the Foriner sisters (Sisteena, Selye, Shelley, Olivia) are recruited and alive. Hence, it's not possible in the Lawful route.
- Return to Coritani for a scene with Moruba Foriner, and tell him you are capable of handling the forbidden power.
- Go to Banhamuba with all four sisters, and a scene will transform them into the Shaman class.
- Visit four of the forts (Gerdo, Bodo, Damsa, and Gekko) for a new battle (against Anberg, Robos, Anchen, and Bavan). There is no temple at Kadoriga.
- After each battle, a scene will show one of the sisters opening the way to the temple interior. Each temple contains a single battle.
Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together (PSP)[]
Note that the quest requires that at least one of the four Phoraena sisters (Cistina, Cerya, Sherri, Olivya) are recruited in Denam's Order.
- Read the talk topic of "The Ancient Temples".
- Defeat the new battles at each of the 6 fortresses on the map - Boed, Qadriga, Ndamsa, Lhazan, Geyld, and Gecho.
- The battle at Gecho Fortress requires the Grimsby sidequest to be completed, followed by reading the "Fortresses Under Siege" talk topic.
- The battle at Lhazan requires that Reymos Cavour be defeated first (Ocionne does not need to be recruited).
- Return to Coritanae Keep for a scene with Mreuva Phoraena, and tell him you are capable of handling the Apocrypha's power.
- The Six Ancient Temples will now be open by revisiting the fortresses. There will be one battle 'Within the Fortress', followed by a multi-level descent to the temples' sanctum.

The Forbidden Magic are some of the strongest spells in the game. To obtain the four elemental Forbidden spells Denim must claim responsibility of their use to Moruba, then visit the Ancient Temples of Philaha with Olivia, Sisteena, Shelley and Selye in his party, while the dark Forbidden spell is obtained in Hell's Gate.

Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together (PSP)[]
The Apocrypha are the strongest spells in the game in terms of raw power, as a result they are exclusive to special classes. The six elemental Apocrypha are obtained from clearing the Ancient Temples of Philaha, while the dark and light Apocrypha are found in the Palace of the Dead and San Bronsa Ruins (Floating Ruins) respectively, but may also spawn from some event battles in Chapter 4 and CODA.
